Hello All,
Crafty Card Makers have the most fab challenge on at the mo...they are asking to see our latest creations but also photo's of where we started.....I think the girls have been really brave putting their early work for all to see.....I personally want to hide mine....but at the same time I want to join in.......Its fab to see though that extremely talented crafters that I really admire.......and would love to reach their standard had humble beginnings.........I think there might be hope for me yet!!!
I will start of with my latest card.....this is me playing with the collage look again...I have a long way to go before I become any good at this style but I am enjoying playing and learning....and thank you for all the encouragement I have had so far regarding this style of card.
What I have loved is digging out old stamps, and falling in love with them all over again.....Like the scroll stamp I have used on this one.....Unfortunately I have not written down the names of the stamps....and I have packed everything away as the inlaws are arriving tomorrow for a few days.
I have done quite a bit of masking for this one.....and the scroll image has been coloured with copics. I have used "distress ink - shabby shutters".......and then the whole thing has been sprayed with a mica powder spray. I have added some stitching detail with green glittery thread and I have added some micro beads to the chandelier.
Now with regards to my first ever card.....I don't have a picture, and to be honest I am quite grateful, I can remember I used wet glue, wrapping paper and stuck a dried flower on it. I only started taking photos of my cards when I began blogging and I had already been crafting for a few years by then.
However my mum came to me with an old card that I had made, asking me to put an insert in it as I had made out of Black card.....well she is not getting it back....but I will make a replacement for her...
so here goes...............
I remember that the paper was wrapping paper from borders.......also check out that huge amount of glitter card.......eek!!!......I stamped and embossed the image....and it looks like I must have coloured the image with a versamark pen, and embossed it with red embossing powder.
Despite my huge embarrassment right now....this has been good for me, I have just not been happy with my cards recently and feel disappointed in myself and my creations.....but to be honest I have been able to see just how far I have come.
Well I think that has been enough waffle from me..

there's nothing to feel embarrassed about Juls - wish my first cards looked that good! Be proud of what you have created, then and now - and appreciate how much youve progressed creatively.
ReplyDeleteMorning Juls,
ReplyDeleteHope your having a lovely Christmas...
I just adore your cards, how strange it is to see how far we have come since starting crafting and I chuckled at your comment about the first card you made, if your anything like me I bet you were so proud of that card at the time and i have to say I can see you had an eye for it because the design is far more advanced than my first...
Wishing you and your family all the best for 2011

Your college card is stunning, I love all the images you have used. As for your first card, it's not that bad - in fact it's rather nice. Thanks for joining us this week at Crafty Cardmakers. xx
ReplyDeleteWow, both of your cards are beautiful! So glad I stopped by for a visit!
ReplyDeleteJuls, When I started blogging, I did not know not to post my cards as I thought they were good. I had encouragement from everywhere. I started doing challenges and realized I could be better. I never put up a card that I did not want someone to see, but I know how you feel. I still do some good cards, some outstanding cards and some not so good cards! It is all relative to what you think is good! Art is subjective. I did enjoy your post and both cards show that you are growing. Love each card because it is a piece of you! You will always have frustration, that is life! Have a Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards - the early one is simpler (aren't they all!) but still a great card, and the recent one is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us at Crafty Cardmakers!
I think these three latest cards from you are fabulous. I know what you mean about getting to grips with the collage effect. I haven't but you surely have. The main image used on the first and third cards is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a very Happy New Year.
Beryl xx
thank you dear Juls for taking some time to day to see me and leaving me a sweet comment

LOVE your story and journey! LOVE LOVE LOVE the collage! WOW! My friend and I were talking about playing in challenges and how I attribute that to my ever evolving "style." I look back and see how much I've grown and how much JOY I have received because of this crafting addiction. Plus I have "met" so many FAB people along the way! Like YOU! Happy New Year, Juls!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful work! Thank you for playing along at CCCB!
ReplyDeleteJules, you have nothing to be ashamed about with either of these cards, your latest one is gorgeous and I would say you have already mastered the technique and your first one has a great eye for colour.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in the fun at Crafty Cardmakers. Do hope to see you back again.

Hi Juls,
ReplyDeleteYour latest card is just awesome, I could never in a month of sundays make anything quite a beautiful as that, you should be really proud of it.
As for your 1st one the layout is very elegant and like me you have an ability to think outside the box. I'm always buying wrapping paper and using it for cards. Just been to Paperchase today and bought 5 sheets, all lush :) I'm lucky that I took photos of all the cards I made and when I look at my earlier cards I think they are awful compared to what I do not but you have to remember there was nothing like the amount of materials there are now. We didn't have oodles of paper collections with matching embellishments so we did really rather well with what we had and also what we could afford.
It's all a journey, I am glad we started on it and hope it never stops.
Thanks for being brave enough to take us up on our First & Last Challenge at Crafty Cardmakers.
